The Liberty Redhawks Golf teams traveled to the past and present home of the Byron Nelson AT&T to participate in the 2019 Jaguar Invitational. This 36-hole event was held over two-days with the first round at Trinity Forest GC on Monday, January 21, and the second round on Tuesday, January 22, at TPC Four Seasons. Both golf courses were extremely challenging, and winds of up to 30mph greeted the players on Monday's round at Trinity Forest, where the 18-hole yardage for the girls was just over 6,000; the boys played at a little over 7,000 yards. The winds subsided somewhat on Tuesday, where the yardages were slightly shorter but the golf no less challenging on the par-70 TPC Four Seasons layout.
On the girls' side, the Redhawks' team finished in 5th place in a strong field of highly ranked 6A & 5A squads. Team members Ali Fong, Sona Shah, Raeleigh Davidson, Maya Jain, and Lizzy Stone traveled to the event. Sophomore Raeleigh Davidson won the individual tournament title with rounds of 78-77, winning by six shots over a stellar field of players in the girls' division. This was Davidson's second tournament win of the 2018-2019 golf season.
On the boys' side, Vijay Jain continued his excellent play by capturing a tie for 2nd place in the individual boys' division. Vijay fired rounds of 77-71 for a two-day total of 148. Jain and the rest of the boys team improved greatly on day two to rally into 7th place in the 16-team field, which fielded several top 5A and 6A squads from throughout the state. The other players who competed for the Redhawks were Andrew Pearson, Vince Matrone, Jack Day, and Sameer Vashisth.
The Redhawk golfers will now take a short break before returning to their 2019 Spring campaign at the Pioneer Invitational at Fossil Creek GC, on February 22-23.
